Create your own custom-designed QR codes!

24 Jan 2012

QR codes (Quick Response) have been about for a long time, but have not perhaps been taken up within education, a little like RSS feeds. They are a type of 2 dimensional code that when scanned by a mobile device will activate a website or function on the smart device.

What can you do with QR codes?

You can link to a variety of things, so for instance you could setup your own contact details, so that when scanned with the smartphone will automatically add the contact to the device.  Or the QR code could link to a destination via google maps.  The code could just link to another website, or video or podcast.  They can also be setup to send SMS messages and tasks or calendar appointments.

Here is a simple example of QR codes being used for the JISC RSC SW accessibility kit list

Visit the QR Code generator website - Unitag to create custom QR codes

What is good about the generator is that you have several options for different types of functions, such as:

  • pure text
  • website
  • me card
  • email
  • geolocation
  • email
  • sms text
  • wi-fi network
  • U.me
