Technology for learning
E-learning can take place within the classroom or workshop, at a distance through a server-based Virtual Learning Environment, and can be accessed through the rapidly developing capabilities of mobile devices. Increasingly, with the expansion of work-based learning, remote access to learning and assessment from within the workplace is also an area of demand. Many learning providers are also enabling the use of learners' own devices, with appropriate guidelines, risk-management and security.
Mobile devices give the scope for user-generated content, for the evidencing of learning.
There is an evolutionary process, through the development of bandwidth, identity management and wireless technologies, where learning providers are considering the balance between enabling access for user-owned devices and the more traditional approach of providing and controlling all peripherals.
The role of RSCs is to support responsible and safe development of learning during a period of rapid technological change and to ensure that learning providers articulate clear policies on which their practice can grow.
